NIDEFA: A Family’s Journey of Resilience and Creativity

NIDEFA stands for Nicky, Dema, and Falone—three siblings united by a shared dream. In the early 1990s, we arrived in South Africa as refugees fleeing war, with little more than hope and determination. Facing unimaginable challenges, my two elder sisters, Nicky and Dema, turned to entrepreneurship to support our
family.

They began creating and selling handcrafted items at local craft markets, using their talent and resilience to earn enough to cover school fees, clothes, and food.
Around 2002, one of them discovered a new passion—making copper wire beaded crochet jewellery. This craft not only became a source of income but also ignited a creative spark in our family.

Thanks to the earnings from our market sales, I was able to pursue my education and eventually earn a PhD in Medical Biochemistry in September 2025.

Today, I am proud to revive our family’s craft business. NIDEFA is more than just a brand; it’s a testament to our journey of perseverance, creativity, and hope. We are passionate about creating beautiful handmade jewellery and providing opportunities for others to find their way.
